5 signs we are in famine and how to survive it

It is intriguing that the times you find yourself may have happened before, and of course it will happen again. 5 reasons to know that we are in a time of famine and how you can survive this season.

A lot of Nigerians do not study, let alone study a subject as boring as ‘history’. But if you study history, you discover that life is just a repetition of history.

What is happening now, has happened before, probably in different colors, different settings. But it has happened before. You understand?

Many times, to understand how to survive in these situations, you go back to history. This is one thing judges do so so well. Before giving any final verdict on a case, they try to see how a previous judge settled such case.

What we now call recession was one time called famine, and from the medieval times (a time I call the horse time), it has always been there. Some called it The Great Depression, Recession, Famine, etc.

While the whole world is going through this, it is more felt in poorer countries with leaders not doing enough. You can just say NIGERIA.

Look around you, you will see every symptom of famine in a place. The middle class is gradually eroding (some would say it is eroded), crime rate is increasing. Oh morals? No one seems to care about this anymore. Just make money!

How do you know we are in deep famine?

ENJOYMENT BUDGET GONE UP

This is the first, the money you use for enjoyment has now tripled. Whatever your source of enjoyment is, whether it is drinking, smoking or womanizing, it has gone up. Even if it is to go outside.

DEPENDENTS ON THE RISE

Most people no longer take calls from family members. This is because they are so sure that every call that is coming in is a call of ‘billing’. Such that calls and texts of family members are left unanswered!

NO LONGER WISE TO SAVE

Normally it seems rational to save, but in a full blown famine, saving funds in an account seems to be a sheepish counsel. Rather it is wise to buy commodities in bulk, most especially edible commodities today, lest the price doubles or triples by the next month.

BASICS SEEMING SCARY

In Nigeria, a lot of people are now scared of having occasions they would have ordinarily had. A very colorful nation with their love for festivities now have people having occasions in week days.

Health care? I’d rather not talk about it. With a lot of people resorting to self medication.

DEPRESSION KICKING IN

Businesses failing, unemployment on the rise, with all these, a lot, a whole lot of Nigerians are getting depressed, some even suicidal!

Many times it appears to be that the only saving grace are things like betting, fraud, these appear to take the minds of people off the actual problem.

WHAT THEN IS THE WAY TO SURVIVE IT?

Far from what you may think, the way to survive this is to watch what you feed your mind. How do you even feed your mind for starters? You do this via two major sources of input – the eyes and the ears.

From what you read, watch and listen. So what are the things you take in. How do you guard your mind? Do you realize that even in famine there are those who were actually rich? There were those who were actually doing well, despite the conditions of other people

So, what do you do about the inputs you take in?
